Happy, happy Thursday! So close to the weekend and I can already tell it is going to be another great fall weekend. 🙂 I shared on Tuesday how excited I am for fall and with each day the temperatures cooling off, I am even more excited for all the things to come with the fall season.
I am exhausted. The start of the school year has been exhausting. Mentally I feel fine, but physically, gosh, this is something I really need to get used to. I know this happens every new school year and I eventually get used to it, but my body is just so tired. Getting adjusted to the school day schedule and being on my feet all day long has been tiring. I love it, but my body is just so tired. On top of the school day, I am helping with coaching cross country, which is leaving me even more tired. Weekends have taken on a whole new meaning post-college, I am super excited by Friday afternoon to just lay in bed and sleeeeep!
Speaking of coaching cross country, I am helping out with coaching cross country and the one thing I did not think of when I volunteered to help out was that most cross country coaches usually run with the students. I showed up to the first practice wearing jeans and a t-shirt and the coach told me that I might as well get my workout in when I come to practice since the girls are out running anyway. So I usually head out with the girls on their easier run days (still too nervous to actually do one of their hard workouts haha) and am proud to share that I can actually keep up with the varsity girls. Though, they are running and chatting the whole way and I am huffing and puffing the whole way. It gets better with time right? 😉
I’ll have a full update on the blog next week, but I am almost through week 2 of training for my fall half marathon and it is going great. I am loving the training plan I use and just work the cross country practice workouts around the schedule and feel like this plan is going to challenge me, but still keep me running healthy and safe. The biggest change for me with this training is training in the afternoon/ evenings. I already get up at 5am to get ready for the day, so if I were to get up to get a run in I would have to get up at who knows what hour (since I would have to shower too) in the morning. Plus, I would not want to run outside at the hour in the morning, so I would be stuck on the treadmill, which I could not see myself doing every.single.day. Not gonna happen.
So I am training in the afternoon and evenings, and so far it is not too bad. I am so busy during the school day that I don’t have time to really think about my workouts, so I either run at cross country practice or run when I get home from the school day and just do it. I try to time it so I finish my run just in time for dinner and am done for the night. I do miss my morning workouts, but it just is not in the picture right now. I still get in my long runs on Saturday morning so at least I have one day a week with a morning energy boost 🙂 But overall, training is going well and I will have more to share with you on Monday of next week.
Every Friday I have to go to Michigan State for my grad classes and the more I do it (tomorrow will be the third time this semester), the more I miss school. Every time I go, I feel like a visitor. I park right by where I used to live and it is so weird NOT living there anymore. I walk across campus, which is pretty quiet on Friday mornings, and miss it so much. I do love being at home and student teaching, but I also miss the independence I had in college and the freedom I had in my schedule. And my grad classes are two three hour classes, which are just exhausting. I am happy that I have my good friends in my classes, but they are definitely long and tiring. Can you tell why by Friday afternoon I am SO ready for bed?!
I think that is it for now. My family has been in Boston all week (without me, whomp whomp) and I cannot wait to see them when I get home from school today. And this weekend is looking to be a good one – Michigan State is playing and although I have a paper to write, I will enjoy plenty of time relaxing… hopefully 🙂
- Do you have a hard time adjusting back to a work or school schedule?
- Any fun weekend plans on the horizon?
