Sharing my favorite healthy travel snacks that I love to bring along on the go!
Helloooo from Boston! I am in my favorite city getting ready for my brother’s graduation this weekend. It feels so good to be back in Boston, after not being here in quite a while. I sure missed it and have been counting down the days to when this trip was finally happening for a long time now. I arrived here yesterday with my family and some of my extended family is coming in today. It is going to be a fun weekend! Plus the weather looks like it is going to be fantastic, so I am even more excited.
Anywhere I need to go in Boston? I have done most of the touristy stuff already, but if there are any hidden gems, let me know!
Since I am on the go with travelling the next couple of days, I thought I would share some of my favorite healthy snacks to bring with me. I always bring a handful of snacks along for any trip because you most definitely do not want to see me hangry!
Here are some of my favorite healthy travel snacks:
Hands down the best snack for me to take on the go is bars. They are already portioned out and packaged up, so all I need to do is grab one and take it with me. The hardest part is figuring out which flavor to bring along 😉 But, I do not just pick any snack bar out there. Some are filled with artificial sugar and other crappy ingredients, so I have my go-to snack bars.
The bars I buy regularly:
The PROBAR Base is a new one to me! I have not yet tried it out but I have heard a lot of people who love them! I think this bar would be great after a workout. I have tried the PROBAR Bite in the past and really liked it.
The one comment I get from others when I eat some of these bars revolves around the calorie counts on these bars. Yes, some of the bars have calorie counts of 250, but to me that is okay. I do not count calories and to be completely honest, I need snacks that are going to fill me up and not leave me craving more. When I eat one of these bars, I am satisfied, when I eat 100 calorie snack bars I am left craving more food.
When I have time before travelling, I like to make a batch of homemade energy balls to bring with me, but when I don’t (like this time), I find energy balls at the grocery store. Energy balls are great to bring on the go because just a few balls can really fill you up and you can share them with others. Whenever I pull out a snack when I am travelling, I like to be able to let others have some (since they are most likely getting hungry too!). Energy balls can easily be packed along in luggage and shared with others on the go. I would recommend packing energy balls in storage containers (rather than plastic bags) so that they do not get smashed in your luggage.
Nuts/ Trail Mix
Nuts are always a go-to travel snack for me! They are easy to find almost anywhere and just a handful can fill you up with protein. When I travel I like to pack along flavored nuts to kick up the flavor. I try to avoid very salty nuts, but rather stick to roasted with a bit of sea salt or flavored with just a little sea salt. Trail mix is great too! My mom has been packing trail mix when we travel for years. It is another snack you can share with others and you can also just eat a bit or eat more, depending on how hungry you are. I always like to find a trail mix with a little bit of chocolate in it 😉
When I need something to crunch on, crackers are my go-to. I like to dip crackers in dips like hummus or salsa, but when I travel I usually don’t have those with me. So I like to just snack on crackers plain. Crackers are great when I just need a little something to hold me over until the next meal. Crackers are not the easiest to pack along in luggage, so I usually carry it with me in my carry on bag if I am flying so they do not get all smashed.
